Garden Fresh Tomato and Basil Sauce.


I have been busy growing all kinds of vegetables in my small garden. The first vegetable ready was the basil. There was lots of it.

Today I will be making an easy garden fresh tomato and basil sauce. This one was inspired by my Aunt Nancy who would make the best tomato and basil sauce every time my husband and I would visit her. The tomato basil pasta sauce was her speciality and it was so delicious over her home-made pasta.

There is a big difference when you make homemade tomato sauce to one purchased from a store. The flavours are so fresh and taste wonderful. This healthy tomato  sauce can be used on other dishes as well. You can add it on salmon, meatballs and of course any style pasta. It freezes well so you can make lots of it.



  • 1/4 cup of fresh basil
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 cup of onions
  • 1/4 cup of peeled tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup of sweet pepper
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Fresh parmesan cheese



I picked the basil from my garden and added it in my blender until it  was grated finely.



Chop up finely the onions, garlic and sweet pepper.



Add the basil and all the chopped up ingredients in a pan. Sautéed with olive oil  until a slight golden brown.



Chop up the peeled tomatoes and add to the garlic mixture.



Cook on medium heat until the peeled tomatoes blend well with the garlic mixture. Use a fork to mash the tomatoes well.



There is nothing like fresh tomato basil sauce over pasta. Top it off with fresh sliced parmesan cheese. Enjoy this dish with a glass of your favorite wine or beverage sitting outside. Life can’t get any better.

    What a wonderful recipe! I love simple recipes especially as we head into the hot months of summer. I never feel like cooking because it’s just too hot around here in North Texas, so this would be a nice way to cook up a bunch of pasta for the week and then to store some sauce for a few weeks later.

  8. This sounds so good, I love fresh basil with so many dishes. You are right, it just tastes better when it’s made fresh at home.
