DIY Marbling Dye Technique On Pillow cases
I am so in love with my new project called marbling. So if you want to learn marbling dye technique on pillow cases this should be a fun tutorial for you. Take any old sheet or an old pillow case and create a super fun design.
What Is Marbling Dye Technique
Marbling involves floating dyes on a liquid surface in a tray. The dyes are manipulated into patterns using tools and then fabric or paper. Methods differ and the results can vary on the tools and liquids. In my technique I am using shaving cream.
What IS the Best DYE For Marbling
There are many color ways to marble fabric. You can use the same dyes I used to dye my silk scarfs. To see it check out the silk scarf tutorial. You can use any water based paints like acyrlics. In this tutorial I used RIT dye which comes in many colors.
Supplies For Marbling Dye Technique
- Old Sheet
- Shaving Cream
How To:
- Cover a table with an old sheet or plastic. Pre-wash pillow cases and dry!
- Wear rubber gloves and mix four tablespoons of RIT Dye into hot water. I used navy as one color with one cup of hot water. Pour dye solution in a small squeeze bottle. Continue with another color and that was used Denim Blue.
- Take you pan and filled it with shaving cream. Take the squeeze bottle that has dye solution and squeeze drops all over the shaving cream. Then take second color and squeeze that the same way. With the top of a spoon, slowly stir around the colors.
4. Carefully place the pillow case or sheet onto the shaving creme with soft hands and smooth carefully. Let it stay on for a few minutes.
5. With a spatula or a knife carefully scrap off the cream. Like magic the dye design will appear. Spray some dye fixate. Follow the directions to make a batch. Once you spray the fixate. Let stay for an hour and rinse the pillow case to remove any cream and put in dryer for 20 minutes.
You can cover half the pillow case like I did or the whole case. After you rinse all the shaving cream, put in dryer. Now you can decorate your bed with these unique pillow cases.

What is Dye Fixate and where do I get it or how is it made? Did the color hold up after washing?
I Found the dye fixate at Micheals where the sell tye dye things. You make a batch of fixate and put it in a spray bottle and after you create the design and take off the shaving creme, spray over the design. let try for a few hours then you can wash.
