I am so in love with my new project called marbling. So if you want to learn easy marbling techniques on fabric this should be a fun tutorial for you. It was for me! Take any old sheet or an old pillow and create a super fun marble pillow case.

Marbling Fabric Supplies:

Rit All-Purpose Dye (Any two colors)/ Squeeze Bottle for Dye/Shaving Cream/Measuring Cup/Old Sheets/Old Spoon for Stirring/Spatula or Knife/Cookie Sheet/Tablespoon/Rubber Gloves/Rit Color Stay Dye Fixative

Easy Marbling Techniques on Fabric

Step 1: Marbling Preparation

Cover a table with an old sheet or plastic. Pre-wash pillow cases and dry!

Step 2: Preparing the Dye

Wear rubber gloves and mix four tablespoons of  RIT Dye into hot water. I used navy as one color with one cup of  hot water. Pour dye solution in a small squeeze bottle. Continue with another color and that was used Denim Blue.

Step 3:  Shaving Cream Marbling

Take you pan and filled it with shaving cream. Take the squeeze bottle and squeeze drops all over the shaving cream. Then take second color and squeeze that the same way. With the top of a spoon, slowly stir around the colors.

Carefully place the pillow case or sheet onto the shaving creme with soft hands and smooth carefully. Let it stay on for a few minutes.

Step 4: Remove Shaving Cream.

With a spatula or a knife carefully scrap off the cream. Like magic the design will appear. Spray some Dye fixate. Follow the directions to make a batch. Once you spray the fixate. Let stay for an hour and rinse the pillow case to remove any cream and put in dryer for 20 minutes.

Hope you enjoyed this, I sure did! If  you like to see more dyeing projects check out my Shibori Dress and my Shibori Pillows DIY.

  3. Maria the result is so pretty. I had no idea this could be done on fabric!

  4. What is Dye Fixate and where do I get it or how is it made? Did the color hold up after washing?

    1. I Found the dye fixate at Micheals where the sell tye dye things. You make a batch of fixate and put it in a spray bottle and after you create the design and take off the shaving creme, spray over the design. let try for a few hours then you can wash.
