How To Decorate Your Vacation Home
We finally got our vacation home in the mountains done. It took over three years to build. We also had unexpected building costs we did not expect. Which brings me to another idea for a post. (How To Pick A Home Builder) That meant I had to be extra careful with costs for decorating.
I thought it be great to hire an interior designer to help with buying the furniture. I spoke to several and I was blown away with the costs. I got quotes from 60-80k to decorate our small mountain home. So I decided to do it myself since I have an eye for decorating. If you have the money to spend on a professional designer then go for it. But this post is designed to help those who are in a budget.

Decorating a vacation home on a budget is entirely possible if you shop strategically and focus on key pieces. First decide what your budget is. I had 20k to spend on the entire home. After getting quotes for 60-80k for my entire small house I was determined to make this happened with my small budget.
The key is to research who had the best delivery and free shipping. Since my home was not completed and I had to do everything from my home in South Carolina I found a furniture store close to my vacation home who was willing to store the furnitures pieces for free and offer white glove delivery service.
If you go with an interior decorator expect to pay for fees for storage unit to store the furniture you are picking.
If you all ready have a vacation home that is ready to be decorated than shopping at affordable retailers such as IKEA, Wayfair, Overstock. These online retailers offer a wide variety of furniture styles at competitive prices, often with sales and free shipping. Target and Walmart you can find stylish pieces like coffee tables, chairs, and storage solutions. Big Lots and HomeGoods have discounted furniture and home décor items that are perfect for a budget conscious shopper.
What Is White Glove Delivery Service
Since I am not using a decorator, white glove delivery service is the next best thing and its free with many furniture companies.
White glove delivery service is a premium delivery option that goes beyond simply dropping off a package at your door. It typically includes several additional services that ensure your item is delivered, unpacked, and set up exactly where you want it. Here’s what you can usually expect with white glove delivery:
1. Normal delivery services will leave your package at the curb or doorstep, where white glove delivery involves bringing the item inside your home, often to the specific room where it will be used.
2. Unpacking: The delivery team unpacks the item for you, removing it from its packaging and making sure its in perfect condition.
3. Assembly: If the item requires assembly of furniture, the white glove service team will assemble it for you. This includes setting up furniture.
4. Placement: The delivery professionals will place the item exactly where you want it in your home. If it’s a large piece of furniture, they may help with moving other items around to accommodate the new piece.
5. Debris Removal: After unpacking and setting up your item, the delivery team will remove all packaging materials and any debris, leaving your home clean and tidy.
6. Inspection: A final inspection to make that the item is free of defects and that you are satisfied with the delivery and setup. White glove delivery is more expensive than standard delivery services due to the extra care, time, and effort involved. The cost can vary depending on the retailer and the level of service provided.
