The extra space is always helpful when you have a growing family or guests visiting for a few days. It also adds value to the home. This year I am a first-time grandmother, so I am excited to be able to have a space that my daughter and her family can enjoy visiting for a while. We decorated the space with nature-inspired pieces such as plants in baskets and pictures of botanical flowers and ferns such as in the stairs going to the room above the garage.

My garage is a detached structure, so it’s almost like a little cottage of its own. The house is nestled in Palmetto Bluff, which is surrounded by forests, wild animals, and lots of birds.
Cozy retreat above the garage was designed so there would be a hallway to the right, where it would lead to a bedroom, bathroom, and closet space. There is plenty of room to add plants in baskets and a woven flat basket on the wall.
Cozy retreat abov ehe garage had one bedroom that is cozy and it has large windows to bring in plenty of sunshine. I added 2 fern prints above the bed, a plant in a woven-style planter, and a rattan end table.
Kitchenette space is like a large coffee bar area equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, sink, and room for a small dining table. To keep the nature vibe going, I added some basket for misc kitchen items and planters with herbs and lots of plants with natural elements like a wooden cutting board and wicker sconces.
The privacy wall is a free-standing wall that serves as a privacy wall, dividing the bedroom and sitting area. The sitting area e where the TVis has a comfy sleeper sofa for extra people. A wonderful rattan ottoman and a large fig tree in a basket.

So much useful information Maria, thank you. Our garage is huge and we’ve been thinking about adding a little granny flat on top. We can always do with the extra space and it would be great for when the kids come to visit from Canada, so they can have their own small living space to get away hugs and kisses from us old folks 😉
