It been so exciting to see the progress of the house all summer. The metal roof was done at the end of the summer just in time for the cold weather so the inside can start.
Metal roofs are very popular in the South. If you ever wonder how it sounds when it rains on a metal roof, its pretty cool and actually puts me to sleep. So now that the roof is on, the entire first floor is going to be stained concrete. This process of staining needs to be done before sheet rock is installed, otherwise the sheet rock will be splattered with stain. I picked a saddle/tan color.
Process of staining concrete floor.
Sand the concrete floor with a heavy-duty commercial sander.
Once the concrete floor is sanded and cleaned a process of acid staining is applied. The acid in the stain lightly etches the surface allowing the metallic salts to penetrate more easily. Once the stain reacts it becomes a permanent part of the concrete. After this process it dries and its covered with plastic to protect it. Once the house is finished the plastic is removed and the concrete is cleaned. Revealing a beautiful lustrous look.
Stay tuned for futures updates of my Nature House!
